YAN SHIHONG

Acrylic, Ink, and Mineral Pigments Painting

Yan Shihong was born in 1954 into a family of scholars and has been influenced by literature and art since childhood. He has a passion for the arts – especially literature, painting, calligraphy and music. Yan's career began as a literary editor, but in his spare time he studied painting art – particularly the impact of the fragmented spirit of today's society and historical cultural impressions as it relates to the influence of online culture.

Yan’s paintings are eccentric and fresh, and they successfully integrate the techniques and characteristics of Eastern classical art and Western contemporary art. They possess a stunning decorative style and profound charm. For his artwork, Yan has drawn on various traditional Chinese art elements such as painted pottery, cave murals, Han Dynasty stone reliefs, brick reliefs, lacquer paintings, woodblock prints, and shadow puppetry. He seamlessly integrates all of these diverse influences (including his study of historical and contemporary Chinese culture beyond just art) to create original works of art that are deeply loved and collected by a young generation of collectors.
