Artist's reflection: A darker contemporary painting with sharper lines and yet with a bit of hope. As viewers look at the painting and through the image of chaotic branches they can see an inviting, bright blue sky just above the pine trees. 
 
The works in Li's "Wasteland" series are representations of his interpretations of what is beyond city life and therefore what represents the meaning of life.
