Artist's reflection: As the sunlight streams down the stairs opening it warms the cold air. The loneliness of the upstairs and downstairs has been erased. 
 
The silence in Zhang’s paintings comes from the peacefulness of his soul. In his paintings, it is as though each color is painted on a limestone colored wall. The colors used are infiltrated by gray and white tones – thus losing their original strength, but softly and elegantly blending together.
