Artist's reflection: Several bottles with liquids in them are present near several gourds. Are the bottles filled with what is in the gourds? Vice versa? And what that signifies to the artist is a mystery. 
 
The silence in Zhang’s paintings comes from the peacefulness of his soul. In his paintings, it is as though each color is painted on a limestone colored wall. The colors used are infiltrated by gray and white tones – thus losing their original strength, but softly and elegantly blending together.
