Artist's reflection: The title of this contemporary painting provides little feedback beyond what a person can actually see. But does the rope and its color have a special meaning to the painter? 
 
The silence in Zhang’s paintings comes from the peacefulness of his soul. In his paintings, it is as though each color is painted on a limestone colored wall. The colors used are infiltrated by gray and white tones – thus losing their original strength, but softly and elegantly blending together.
