Artist's reflection: In this paintaing, Zhang creates a balance on several levels. First, there is the balance of a dark ground and light sky. Then there is the "clean" white color of a suit off setting blue and red dresses. Next there are two females and a male. Finally, a blooming rose bush separates the painting into a right and left side. This combination along with the apparent emotions of the individuals helps to create a complex scene.
 
Smooth, soft and colorful can aptly describe Zhang's style.
