Artist's reflection: The color green shares the canvas with a darker  gray-like color splitting the painting into a light and dark. Is this a simple shadow? Is it meant to represent good and bad? 
 
The silence in Zhang’s paintings comes from the peacefulness of his soul. In his paintings, it is as though each color is painted on a limestone colored wall. The colors used are infiltrated by gray and white tones – thus losing their original strength, but softly and elegantly blending together.
