Artist's reflection: As a master painter, Dong is able to expertly apply brush strokes to create a glass-like surface to the water. And while the scene is dominated by darker colors, he cleverly adds a hint of yellow and red to create a focal point within this contemporary piece. 
 
Dong's contemporary watercolor paintings are mainly based on the natural scenery of the four seasons. Many of his works are created from his travels or daily life. His paintings are simple and generous, but pass on to the viewer unique feelings about the four seasons. It is as if through the paintings the viewer can feel the the comfort and calmness of close contact with nature.
