Artist: Niu Yuhe
Artist's reflection: This contemporary artwork uses as scenery Mount Tai, which is one of the "Five Sacred Mountains" of China. This mountain is a scenic spot for tourists to take photos and it also appears on the Chinese currency. The stone in this painting has an attribute of time.
In the artwork, the Chinese characters "Five Sacred Sovereigns" on the boulder are replaced with "I have been here. I will love you for ten thousand years". These words are derived from the words left by tourists in scenic spots or carved on trees. This change converts the huge stone from being a symbol of ancient emperors to one with a civilian perspective. In fact, in traditional Chinese culture, the average person worships "ten thousand".
In order to reflect time in the painting some animal images are drawn with lines to look like rock paintings - they represent a primitive meaning. In the face of time, nothing is eternal. Human life, an era, is just an instant. The red lump is imagery, like another stone that flies and smashes into the huge boulder.
